President-elect Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday paid his respects to BNP founder and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at their graves in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Mirza Fakhrul visited the Zia Mausoleum inside Zia Udyan after attending Jummah prayers.
He laid separate wreaths at the graves of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia, recited Fateha and joined a munajat seeking eternal peace for the departed leaders.
The veteran politician is scheduled to take oath as the 23rd President of Bangladesh later in the evening.
The oath-taking ceremony will be held at Bangabhaban’s Darbar Hall at 7:30pm, according to the President’s Office.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad will administer the oath of office to the president-elect.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, members of the Cabinet and hundreds of distinguished guests are expected to attend the ceremony.
