Newly-elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has entered Bangabhaban to take oath.
The president’s motorcade entered Bangabhaban around 5:50pm on Friday evening.
The oath-taking ceremony of the new president will be held at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on Friday evening. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman along with other dignitaries of the state will be present at the ceremony.
Invited guests have already begun to arrive at the venue. Security has been beefed up around the area centring the ceremony.
According to officials from the Cabinet Division, more than 1,200 guests have been invited to the oath-taking ceremony. Acting speaker of the parliament Kayser Kamal will administer the president’s oath, while Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani will moderate the event.
The invitation letter issued by the Cabinet Division says the president will enter the Darbar Hall at 7:30pm. The acting speaker will administer the president’s oath after the national anthem and recitation from the Quran.
Fakhrul was elected as president with 255 votes out of 349 on Thursday. The position fell vacant after former president Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned from his position on 24 July.
