Acting President Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Acting Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal have cast their votes in the country’s 23rd presidential election.
BNP presidential candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also cast his vote, followed by Leader of the Opposition Shafiqur Rahman.
The other candidate in the presidential race is Col (retd) Oli Ahmed, nominated by the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance.
Voting began at 2pm on Thursday at the session chamber of the Jatiya Sangsad and will continue until 5pm without a break. A total of 349 MPs are eligible to vote.
Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin is serving as the returning officer for the election.
