A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Syed Monalisa Islam, wife of former state minister Farhad Hossain and a leader of Jubo Mohila League, on a three-day remand in a murder case linked to the July Uprising.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Jonaid passed the order following a petition by the investigation officer, said defence lawyer Tariqul Islam.
Earlier, on 12 August, Monalisa was shown arrested in the case. The following day, Inspector Amzad Hossain Talukder of the DB Police’s Ramna zonal team sought a seven-day remand for questioning.
During the hearing, defence lawyer Tariqul Islam sought cancellation of the remand and bail, while the state prosecution opposed the plea. After hearing both sides, the court granted a three-day remand.
According to the case statement, trader Abdul Wadud was shot dead on 19 July 2024 during the July uprising. His brother-in-law, Abdur Rahman, filed a murder case against 130 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, over the incident.
It may be mentioned that police arrested Monalisa Islam from a house on Eskaton Road in Dhaka late at night on 16 February 2025. She has remained in custody since then.
