Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was sworn in as the 23rd President of Bangladesh on Thursday.

Acting speaker Barrsiter Kayser Kamal administered the oath of office to the newly elected president at Bangabhaban in the evening.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, cabinet members, senior government officials, political leaders and other dignitaries attended the ceremony.

The swearing-in followed Mirza Fakhrul’s election as president on Thursday. He was elected by members of parliament in the country’s first competitive presidential election in nearly 35 years.
