India withdraws statement on preparations for Tarique’s possible visit

India on Friday withdrew an earlier statement indicating preparations at Rashtrapati Bhavan for the possible visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

In a press release issued in the afternoon, India’s President’s Secretariat had earlier said, “The Change of Guard Ceremony at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan will not take place on Saturday (22 August) due to the full rehearsal for the ceremonial welcome of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.”

The statement was posted by India’s Press Information Bureau at 2:25pm but was later withdrawn.

The development came as Dhaka and New Delhi continued discussions over Tarique Rahman’s proposed visit to India.
