Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh at Kolkata Mission Mohammad Khaled said on Friday that the bodies of those killed in a fire accident at a hotel in Kolkata will be returned to the victims’ families by Saturday.
Khaled confirmed the matter during a press briefing on Friday.
During the briefing, Khaled said, “Among those killed, five bodies will be returned through the Benapole border. The Bangladesh Deputy High Commission is trying its best to return the bodies by Friday afternoon. If all the formalities remain unfinished, the bodies might arrive in Bangladesh on Saturday.”
“Meanwhile, the body of another victim from Satkhira will be returned through Bhomra border. However, the final rites of another Satkhira resident killed during the fire accident might be held in Kolkata following the request made by her family members,” Khaled added.
Talking about Reboti Sarkar, a victim of the Kolkata fire, Khaled further said her family has requested the high commission to complete the final rites in Kolkata, which needs permission from local authorities.
“We will inform Bangladesh’s foreign ministry about the request and take necessary steps accordingly,” Khaled said.
A total of seven Bangladeshis were killed in a fire at the “Shikha Inn” residential hotel on Mirza Ghalib Street in Kolkata’s New Market area on Tuesday night. The victims include one children and two women.
