A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking an order to declare the parliamentary seat of Abdul Hannan Masud, MP for Noakhali-6 (Hatiya), vacant or to cancel his membership.
Supreme Court lawyer Md Yunus Ali Akand filed the petition with the relevant section of the High Court on Wednesday (19 August). The lawyer himself confirmed the matter.
Hannan Masud, a leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), became the youngest member of parliament among those elected in the 13th parliamentary election held on 12 February.
According to information provided in his election affidavit, he was also the youngest candidate in the election.
Hannan Masud rose to prominence in national politics during the July-August 2024 student-led mass uprising, serving as one of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
He played an active role at various stages of the movement, particularly when there was a leadership vacuum.
