The Election Commission (EC) has declared the nomination paper of BNP-backed presidential candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir valid.
Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin, acting as the returning officer, scrutinised the nomination paper at the Election Commission building on Sunday (16 August).
BNP announced the name of its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as the party’s candidate for the country’s 23rd presidential election on Thursday (13 August).
Meanwhile, the EC has also declared the nomination paper of Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed, the presidential candidate backed by an 11-party alliance, valid.
The 23rd presidential election is scheduled to be held on 20 August. The deadline for withdrawing candidacy has been set for 4pm on 18 August.
