Presidential election scheduled for 20 August

The presidential election will be held on 20 August, according to sources at the Election Commission Secretariat.

The Election Commission (EC) announced the schedule on Thursday afternoon. Senior EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed disclosed the information.

According to the announced timetable, voting will be held on 20 August in the Parliament Chamber at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

The senior EC secretary said as per the schedule, nomination papers can be submitted at the office of the Chief Election Commissioner/Returning Officer from 10:00am to 4:00pm on 13 August.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will begin at 10:00am on 16 August. Candidates may withdraw their nominations until 4:00pm on 18 August.

Voting will take place from 2:00pm to 5:00pm on 20 August in the Parliament Chamber at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

He further said that the voter list for the presidential election has already been finalised. Following the announcement of the schedule, the EC is taking the necessary administrative and other preparations to ensure the election is conducted smoothly.
