Tigers roar in Darwin as Bangladesh beat Australia

Bangladesh secured a historic Test victory over Australia by nine wickets in Darwin on Sunday, chasing down a target of 57 runs  after bowling the hosts out for 284 in their second innings.

Chasing a modest target, Bangladesh lost Tanzid Hasan Tamim early. In the end, Mominul sealed the historic Darwin triumph with a magnificent square-cut boundary, remaining unbeaten on 30 off 39 balls. Shadman was unbeaten at the other end on 25 off 42 balls.

Resuming on 161 for 4, Australia added 123 runs to their overnight total but lost their final six wickets for the same number of runs.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz led Bangladesh’s bowling attack with five wickets, while Hasan Mahmud claimed three to finish with nine wickets in the match.

Cameron Green top-scored for Australia with 87 before Hasan Mahmud dismissed him for the ninth wicket with the score on 278.

Miraz had earlier removed Alex Carey for 49, Beau Webster for 15 and Pat Cummins for 14, having dismissed Steven Smith for 44 on Saturday. He then trapped Nathan Lyon lbw for 15 to complete Australia’s innings at 284.

Bangladesh had bowled Australia out for 198 in the first innings before piling up 426, securing a commanding 228-run lead.

Tanzid Hasan struck his maiden Test century, while Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed 84 and Miraz scored 65.

Hasan Mahmud took six wickets in Australia’s first innings and three in the second, while Taskin Ahmed claimed the remaining wicket.

Needing just 57 runs for victory, Bangladesh completed the chase without any major setback to register their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil..
