Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman Partho has said there is no alternative to socially boycotting those who seek to establish fascism through intellectual platforms.
“If someone loves authoritarianism in their thoughts and consciousness, that reflects their own intellectual and moral deficiency,” he said.
However, the minister said that if such activities cross the threshold of treason, legal action will be taken alongside social boycotts.
Andaleeve Rahman Partho made the remarks during a briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
“The government did not come to power during any normal period. Considering everything, the government is going through a sensitive time. The government will move forward if it has the people’s support,” he said.
The minister reiterated that those attempting to legitimise fascism through intellectual platforms should be socially boycotted.
Andaleeve Rahman Partho also said that cultural programmes, including concerts, had been cancelled in a few places, including Brahmanbaria, for security reasons.
“The government is looking into the matter in consultation with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs,” he said.
