Chittagong University to receive 10 new buses from Jasim Uddin Foundation

Chittagong University (CU) is set to receive 10 new buses from the Jasim Uddin Foundation to help ease long-standing transportation problems faced by its teachers and students.

A bilateral agreement to provide the buses was signed between the university and the foundation on Monday.

Under the agreement, two buses will be allocated for teachers, while four each will be designated for male and female students.

Jasim Uddin, chairman of the Jasim Uddin Foundation and an expatriate businessman, signed the agreement on behalf of the foundation. CU Acting Registrar Md Hasan Mia signed it on behalf of the university.

CU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Al-Forkan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Mohammad Al-Amin and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Md Shafiqul Islam were present at the signing ceremony.

Representing the foundation, its Director and businessman Mohammad Mokhtar Ahmad, Vice-Chairman Mohammad Zubayer Uddin, Mohammad Habib Ullah Master, journalist SM Yusuf Uddin and Meghna Bank branch manager Mohammad Belal attended the event.

Jasim Uddin said the initiative was taken to address the long-standing transportation difficulties faced by Chittagong University students and teachers.

He expressed hope that the addition of the 10 buses would significantly improve commuting facilities for members of the university community.

Welcoming the foundation’s education- and public welfare-focused initiative, the CU vice-chancellor thanked it for the support and urged the organisation to continue contributing to the university’s development through similar socially responsible initiatives.

Deans of various faculties, the director of the Student Counselling and Guidance Office, the university’s transport administrator, senior officials and other concerned persons were also present at the event.
