15 more accused remanded over alleged 15 August sabotage plot

A Dhaka court on Sunday placed 15 more individuals on a one-day remand each in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act over an alleged plot to carry out sabotage and terrorist activities in the capital on the occasion of 15 August.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Riyad Hasan passed the order, said Prosecution Division Sub-Inspector Kamal Hossain.

The accused sent to remand were Limon Khan, Dewan Ismail, Fahim Mia, Ratan, Rakib alias Rafi, Ratul Shil, Minarul Mia, Masud Rana alias Limu, Jihad Hasan, Abu Saim alias Sayem Babu, Fahim, Shakil Mia, Rajib, Sani and Rajon Mia.

On 15 August, Vatara Police Station Sub-Inspector Hafizur Rahman, also the investigating officer of the case, sought seven days’ remand for each of the accused.

On 19 August, another 15 accused were placed on a three-day remand each in the same case.

According to the case documents, police arrested them from a house in the Vatara Police Station area on 13 August following a tip-off that a conspiracy was being hatched to carry out sabotage and anti-state terrorist activities on the occasion of 15 August.

The case also alleged that the accused were planning to create instability and panic in the country through political programmes.
