Home minister lauds police for low crime rate

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the country’s overall crime situation has improved compared to the same period last year, claiming that almost all categories of crime have decreased.

He made the remarks on Monday at a press conference held at the Secretariat.

During the briefing, the minister also said that initiatives have been taken to further “boost up” the police force to strengthen law enforcement capacity.

At the event, awards and financial incentives were presented to 15 police personnel for their role in handling several significant incidents.

Among those recognised were officers involved in the investigation and swift arrest of suspects in the Pallabi child murder case, members of the river police who helped save passengers during a ferry accident in Daulatdia, and officers who played a key role in arresting four suspects in a gang rape case in Munshiganj.

Each awardee received Tk20,000 along with certificates of appreciation, while some officers were also awarded special badges.

Responding to questions about law and order, the minister said the government had completed three months in office and compared crime statistics with the same period last year.

“According to the data I have received, there has been a significant improvement in the crime situation compared to 2025. Crimes have decreased in almost every category,” he said.
