A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced Suparna Sur Chowdhury, wife of former Bangladesh Bank deputy governor Sitangshu Kumar Sur (SK Sur), to two years in prison in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for failing to submit a wealth statement.

The court also fined Suparna Tk1 lakh, in default of which she will have to serve an additional three months in jail.

Dhaka Special Judge Court-10 Judge Md Robiul Islam pronounced the verdict, said ACC prosecutor Shah Md Nazmus Sakib.

Earlier in the day, Suparna was produced before the court from jail and later sent back to jail with the conviction warrant following the announcement of the verdict.

According to the case documents, the ACC had asked Suparna to submit a detailed statement of all her assets, liabilities and sources of income, as well as those of persons dependent on her husband SK Sur, either in their own names or under fictitious names, following allegations that she possessed assets beyond her known sources of income.

However, she failed to submit the statement within 21 working days of receiving the order, despite receiving the wealth statement form along with the order on 27 October 2024.

Following this, ACC Deputy Director Nazmul Hossain filed the case against her under Section 26(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, on 23 December 2024.

ACC Assistant Director AM Taher submitted the charge sheet before the court on 29 June 2025, and the court framed charges against her on 3 February this year. During the trial, the court recorded the statements of five prosecution witnesses.
