Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam has called for stronger international cooperation to develop sustainable, resilient and inclusive infrastructure.

He made the call while addressing the inaugural session of the Global Infrastructure Cooperation Conference (GICC) 2026 in Seoul, South Korea, on Tuesday, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.

The three-day conference is being organised by South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and managed by the International Contractors Association of Korea (ICAK).

The conference, themed “Cooperation on Global Infrastructure Projects Opened by AI”, is being attended by ministers and senior government officials from different countries, representatives of infrastructure agencies, multilateral development institutions, project implementers, and leading construction and engineering companies.

In his speech, Rabiul Alam stressed the importance of international cooperation, innovation and the effective use of technology in developing resilient, sustainable and inclusive infrastructure.

He said infrastructure development is a key foundation for economic growth, regional connectivity, social development and improving people’s quality of life.

The minister said infrastructure development requires not only financing but also a combination of modern technology, knowledge and technical expertise. He stressed the need to strengthen cooperation among countries through the exchange of experience and technology.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Bangladesh is committed to developing an integrated, efficient, low-carbon and climate-resilient transport system, he said.

The minister said Bangladesh is taking initiatives to implement major transformative infrastructure projects through international partnerships and financing.

Bangladesh is keen to deepen infrastructure cooperation with South Korea and other international partners through government-to-government cooperation, foreign direct investment, concessional financing and public-private partnerships, he said.

The country also wants to explore new opportunities in infrastructure development through technology transfer, knowledge and experience sharing, and skills development, he added.
