Train services on the Dhaka-Chattogram route remained suspended for around one and a-half hours on Sunday after a train hit a sand-laden truck at Mirsharai upazila Chattogram.
The accident occurred at around 8:55am in the Borotakia area near Chinki Astana Station, causing the truck to overturn, railway officials said.
Rail communication along the route remained suspended until 10:30am, when the Sylhet-bound Paharika Express resumed its journey after the line was cleared.
Farhan Mahmud, divisional transportation officer of Bangladesh Railway (eastern zone), said the sand-laden truck collided with the moving train near Chinki Astana.
“The truck overturned and was dragged after being hit by the train. The trucker fled the scene following the accident,” he said.
Officer in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Rafique of the Railway Police Chattogram Station said investigation was going on in this regard.
