A Dhaka court on Friday sent to jail three suspects on allegations of attempting to kill a motorbike rider by severely injuring his head with a brick in the capital’s Kafrul area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin sent the three to jail after a plea submitted in this regard by the investigating officer, Kafrul Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Hasibur Rahman, said Wazed Ali of the prosecution team.
Those sent to jail are: Md Parvez, Anowar Hossain Babu and Md Faisal alias Kalu.
In initial interrogation, Kalu confessed to the police that he had enmity with the victim, Rafi, over business-related differences. A few days ago they quarreled over the issue.
On Thursday, Md. Parvez was arrested from an Indian border-adjacent area under Dhobaura Police Station in Mymensingh district, while Anwar Hossain Babu was arrested from the Ibrahimpur area. In a separate operation in the Kafrul Police Station area, RAB arrested Faisal, also known as Kalu.
According to the case statement, Rafi was returning home on his motorcycle at around 1:20am last Wednesday.
When he reached the Ibrahimpur area under Kafrul Police Station, Kalu, Parvez, and several of their associates were already reportedly gathered on the roadside. Upon seeing Rafi alone, they attempted to stop him. When Kalu failed to intercept the motorcyclist, Parvez, who was positioned a short distance ahead, allegedly struck Rafi forcefully on the right side of the head with a piece of brick. The blow caused Rafi to fall from the motorcycle and suffer serious head injuries. The accused later took the injured motorcyclist to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and fled the scene.
Following the incident, Rafi’s uncle, Nur Hossain, filed a case with Kafrul Police Station on charges of attempted murder.
