A teenager died after being electrocuted while attempting to hoist a Brazil flag in Manikganj ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (09 June) in the Bhatbaur area of Sadar Upazila when 18-year-old Faisal climbed a mango tree near Tasnuva Filling Station to hang the flag.
The deceased was the son of Munna Mia of Bhatbaur and worked at Faisal Filling Station.
According to police and local residents, Faisal was a supporter of Brazil and had climbed the tree to hoist his favorite team’s flag ahead of the football tournament. A power line ran close to the tree, and while attaching the flag, he accidentally came into contact with the live wire.
He was electrocuted and fell from the tree. Locals rushed him to the 250-bed Manikganj General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Monir Hossain of Sadar Police Station confirmed the incident, saying that Faisal died after being electrocuted while hoisting the Brazil flag.
“The body has been recovered and kept at the hospital morgue. Legal procedures are underway,” the OC added.
