Rescue train derails while recovering Brahmaputra Express in Mymensingh

Rail communication between Dhaka and parts of northern Bangladesh was disrupted after a power car of the Brahmaputra Express derailed in Mymensingh.

Compounding the situation, a rescue train sent to recover the stranded train also suffered a derailment.

The incident occurred at around 9:15am on Wednesday (10 June) near the Ananda College rail crossing in Mymensingh city, when the power car of the Dhaka-bound Brahmaputra Express, which had departed from Jamalpur, went off the tracks.

As a result, train services on the Mymensingh–Jamalpur route were suspended.

At around 10:00 am, a relief train dispatched to recover the derailed power car also experienced a derailment. One of its coaches left the tracks near the outer signal area of Mymensingh Railway Station.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Akhtar Hossain of Mymensingh Railway Police Station said the Brahmaputra Express developed a loud noise before the wheels of its power car derailed near the Ananda College rail crossing.

He added that efforts are currently underway to recover the derailed coach of the relief train. Once that operation is completed, authorities will begin work to recover the derailed power car of the Brahmaputra Express.

Railway officials are investigating the cause of the incidents.
