Dignity of workers ensures inclusive, sustainable progress: Mahdi

Identifying working-class people as the main engine of national economy, Prime Minister’s Labour and Employment Adviser Mahdi Amin has prioritised their sustainable protection along with increasing the dignity and efficiency of workers.

“Ensuring the dignity of work is equal to ensuring the dignity of the nation. Proper wage is not a favour, it is the right of a worker. A secure workplace is a fundamental right of each worker. Workers’ welfare ensures the safety of their families. Capable workers are one of the biggest productive wealth of a nation,” Mahdi said.

Mahdi made the remarks at a conference organised by Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS) at the Diploma Engineers’ Institute in the capital on Saturday.

Mahdi added, “Increasing a worker’s capacity increases industrial efficiency and the strength of a country’s competitiveness. Workers’ capacity needs to be taken forward with changes in technology.”

Prime Minister’s Adviser and BILS Secretary General Nazrul Islam Khan and Social Welfare Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, among others, spoke at the event.
