Tarique Rahman unlikely to visit India before UNGA: Humaiun Kobir

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir said on Saturday that there is no possibility of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visiting India before the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.

He said that the date for the Prime Minister’s proposed visit to India has yet to be finalised. The discussions on the visit are still under way.

Humaiun Kobir made the remarks while speaking to leaders of television journalists at a hotel in Sylhet in the morning.

“The discussions on the prime minister’s visit to India are ongoing. However, the date has not yet been finalised. There is no possibility of the prime minister visiting India before the UN General Assembly session,” the state minister said.

He said the Prime Minister would attend the UN General Assembly with a message about Bangladesh’s progress towards a new future.

“There is a possibility of a meeting between the Prime Minister and US President Donald Trump there,” Humaiun Kobir said.

The state minister also spoke about Bangladesh’s decision to join the Mecca Pact, saying there was nothing unusual about the move.

“Bangladesh’s joining the Mecca Pact is not unusual. We will go wherever necessary based on the national interest,” he said.

Regarding Bangladesh’s plan to purchase Boeing aircraft from the United States, Humayun Kabir said the decision was driven by demand.

“We are buying Boeing aircraft from the United States because there is a demand. More may be purchased if necessary,” he added.
