Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has said conspirators within the police force have been identified, while describing the widespread media coverage of child disappearance cases as part of a conspiracy.
“Cases of child disappearance existed in the past as well. But highlighting them extensively in the media is conspiratorial,” he said.
Accusing “yellow journalists” of conspiring, the IGP said, “There are also conspirators within the police. They have been identified.”
He made the remarks on Saturday while attending a cleanliness programme at Rajarbagh Police Lines School and College in the capital.
The IGP said rumours were being spread on social media to embarrass the government.
“There should be a policy on what can and cannot be done,” he said.
Earlier in the morning, the IGP spoke at a programme titled “My city, my country — Bangladesh changes through cleanliness”, organised by Community Bank at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in the capital.
IGP Md Ali Hossain Fakir and Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md Abdus Salam inaugurated the programme by planting neem saplings.
As the special guest, the IGP said drug dealers, snatchers and other criminals could not be kept in jail for long because of loopholes in the law.
