Veteran actor Dilara Zaman has refuted a social media claim that she is living in a small rented house after a tenant allegedly took over her Dhaka property.

She said the house occupation incident was real, but it took place around 22–23 years ago and had nothing to do with her current living situation. She currently lives in her own apartment.

A photo card containing a statement attributed to Dilara Zaman began circulating on social media from Friday (4 September). It claimed that she had built a house on land given to her by her father by taking loans. She later rented out the house to repay the debt but allegedly did not receive the rent, and the tenant eventually took possession of the property. The post further claimed that she now lives in a small rented house.

The claim caused concern among her fans and well-wishers, but Dilara Zaman said she was surprised to hear about it.

“Have people lost their minds? It would be better if they thought a little, spoke to me and then wrote about it,” she told the media.

The actor said the house occupation incident being circulated was not recent. It occurred around 2003–2004, when she was living in the Shyamoli area of Dhaka. She said the property there was her ancestral home, which she had received from her father and where she lived with her family.

At one point, an attempt was made to take over the house. After the matter was reported in the media, the authorities concerned took notice, and the attempt to occupy the property was ultimately unsuccessful.

Dilara Zaman later sold the house in Shyamoli. She moved to Uttara with her family in 2008 and bought a 1,600-square-foot apartment, where she has lived ever since.

She said that although she occasionally visits her two daughters who live abroad, she does not travel overseas as frequently as she used to. Alongside her acting commitments, she continues to live in her own apartment in Uttara.

Expressing surprise that an old incident had resurfaced after so many years, Dilara Zaman said she herself could not understand how such bizarre information had suddenly come to light.
