Two accused confessed and another was placed on remand on Sunday in a killing case filed over the recovery of an individual’s body from Dhaka Elevated Expressway.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Al-Biruni Mir recorded the statement of accused Saju Laskar, while Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Siddiq Azad recorded Mahbub Alam Monir’s statement.
The two were subsequently sent to jail. They are reportedly the helper and conductor of the bus in which the victim was travelling.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam also granted a four-day remand for bus driver Sohel Rana in the case.
Earlier, the three accused were produced before the court. Later, Nazrul Islam Talukder, sub-inspector of Banani Police Station and investigation officer of the case, pleaded to record Saju and Monir’s voluntary confessional statements while he sought seven-day remand for accused Sohel.
According to the case records, victim Ismail Hossain left his village home in Jamalpur for Gazipur at around 4:30am on 4 September with Tk5lakh in cash from the sale of land in his village, along with various food items.
His son, Hasan, was waiting for him at the Jirani bus stand in Gazipur. However, Hasan could not contact his father as his mobile phone was found switched off.
Later, police recovered the body of the victim, identified by her relatives, from the Banani section of the Elevated Expressway on the Kakoli-Kuril-bound stretch under Banani Police Station.
No cash or goods that Ismail had reportedly brought from his village were found with the body. Following the incident, Ismail’s son Md Hasan filed a case with Banani Police Station.
