Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has said that drug peddlers and muggers cannot be kept in custody for a long time despite their arrests due to restrictions by law.
“As a result, these criminals are engaging with the same crimes after their release,” the IGP said.
The IGP made the remarks at a cleanliness event organised by Community Bank at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in the capital on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, the IGP said, “Police is conducting regular drives against drugs and mugging. Although many criminals were brought under the law, they could not be kept inside for an expected timeframe due to various legal restrictions.”
During his speech, the IGP urged people from all walks of life to come forward to prevent drug peddling and mugging instead of relying on police only.
