Police not enforcement arm of any political party: Home Minister

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the Bangladesh Police is not the enforcement arm of any political party or group, but a professional, politically neutral and people-oriented institution committed to upholding a zero-tolerance policy against corruption.

He made the remarks while addressing police officers at the graduation parade of the first phase of training for the 27th BCS Assistant Superintendents of Police (Probationary) at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi, on Sunday morning.

Salahuddin Ahmed urged the newly recruited officers to develop technical expertise in combating digital crime and ensuring cybersecurity, and to establish themselves as sincere friends and public servants dedicated to serving the people.

He also said the police force had suffered during the tenure of the previous “fascist” government, stressing that officers must ensure no citizen faces harassment while seeking police services.

The graduation parade marked the completion of the six-month basic training programme for the first phase of the 27th BCS (Police) batch of probationary assistant superintendents of police.

As the chief guest, Salahuddin Ahmed took the salute at the parade held on the academy’s parade ground and later distributed awards among trainees who excelled in various categories.

Probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police Dr Md Nurul Huda Bhuiyan served as the parade commander and received both the Best Probationer and Best in Field Activities awards. Abu Numan Mohammad Khairul Islam won the Best Academic Award, while ABM Mamun was recognised as the Best Shooter.

Among others, Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir, and Bangladesh Police Academy Principal and Additional IGP GM Azizur Rahman attended the ceremony as special guests.
