US Special Envoy Sergio Gor for South and Central Asia has said there are “wonderful opportunities” to deepen economic cooperation between the United States and Bangladesh, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
In a post on X following his meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday, Gor said the two sides discussed ways to expand economic engagement and reinforce the partnership between the two countries.
“Today, I met with Honorable Prime Minister Rahman and discussed the wonderful opportunities that exist to enhance economic cooperation between the United States and Bangladesh and further strengthen our partnership. It is a priority for the United States, and working together, we can achieve real success,” the US Special Envoy Sergio Gor wrote.
The statement regarding US-Bangladesh economic ties was later shared on the official Facebook page of the US Embassy in Dhaka.
The US Special Envoy Sergio Gor’s remarks came after he paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Saturday morning during his three-day visit to Bangladesh.
Sergio Gor arrived in Dhaka on Thursday. During the visit, he held talks with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and travelled to Cox’s Bazar to visit the Rohingya camps, underscoring Washington’s continued engagement with Bangladesh on economic, humanitarian and regional issues.
