Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) members arrested a suspect and recovered government medicines worth about Tk300,000 that had allegedly been stolen from the Government Employees Hospital in the capital.
The suspect, identified as Nasim, 21, was detained during a late-night operation at the hospital on Thursday, according to Md Shahiduzzaman Raju, Circle Adjutant of the Public Relations Wing at the Ansar and VDP Headquarters.
He said Ansar member Md Abdul Hadi, who was on duty on the second floor of the hospital at around 2:00am, noticed the suspect moving suspiciously near the medicine store and immediately alerted Camp In-Charge PC Md Khairul Islam.
Khairul Islam, accompanied by patrolling APC Md Hamidur Rahman, rushed to the scene and detained the suspect with a suitcase and three bags.
A search of the luggage led to the recovery of nearly 500 boxes of government medicines, with an estimated market value of about Tk300,000. Ansar members also seized three smartphones and three identity cards from the suspect.
The authorities later handed Nasim over to police through the hospital administration for legal action.
Shahiduzzaman Raju said Bangladesh Ansar and VDP members continue to safeguard government hospitals, protect public property and prevent crime with professionalism and vigilance.
He said the recovery of the medicines and the arrest of the suspect demonstrate the force’s continued commitment to protecting government assets.
