The Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) on Thursday launched the Growth for Climate Resilient and Environmental Entrepreneurship and Nutrition (GREEN) Project to accelerate sustainable economic growth by strengthening climate resilience, promoting safe and nutritious food systems, and fostering environmentally sustainable entrepreneurship.
PKSF inaugurated the project at PKSF Bhaban-1 in Dhaka at a ceremony chaired by its Managing Director, Md Fazlul Kader.
Delivering the welcome address, PKSF Deputy Managing Director Dr Akond Mohammad Rafiqul Islam outlined the rationale behind the GREEN Project and its strategic importance. Deputy General Manager and Project Coordinator Md Habibur Rahman presented an overview of the initiative.
PKSF Deputy Managing Directors AQM Golam Mawla, Md Mashiar Rahman and Md Hasan Khaled also highlighted the organisation’s development programmes and future priorities.
According to the project presentation, the GREEN Project will run from 2026 to 2031 with a total investment of US$211.7 million. The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will provide US$70 million, while PKSF and its partner organisations will contribute the remaining funds.
The joint investment is expected to expand climate-resilient agriculture, promote green enterprises and improve nutrition across Bangladesh, according to a press release.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Fazlul Kader stressed the need to move beyond the conventional microfinance model towards growth-oriented financing.
“Through the GREEN Project, PKSF will transform the microenterprise sector into a driver of inclusive economic growth,” he said.
He said the project will prioritise digital financing, agroecological farming, agriculture-based microenterprises, local agro-processing and value addition, safe and nutritious food systems, renewable energy—particularly solar power—and the promotion of a circular economy.
The project will directly benefit more than 258,000 families in the country’s haor, coastal, Barind and char regions.
It will prioritise climate-vulnerable communities, women, young people, small ethnic communities, socially marginalised groups and microentrepreneurs by promoting climate-resilient food systems, green technologies, sustainable enterprise development, inclusive financial services and stronger institutional capacity among PKSF’s partner organisations.
