The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in six divisions and issued a storm warning for 19 districts, including Dhaka.
The weather office issued the forecast in two separate bulletins on Tuesday.
In a bulletin, it said parts of Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions may receive heavy rainfall of 44-88 millimetres in 24 hours and very heavy rainfall exceeding 88 millimetres in 24 hours during the next 48 hours from 3pm on Tuesday.
The bulletin warned that heavy to very heavy rain could cause temporary waterlogging in parts of Chattogram city and landslides in some hilly areas of Chattogram division.
In another bulletin issued for inland river ports, the weather office forecast temporary gusty winds with thunderstorms and rain in Dhaka and 18 other districts from 5am to 1pm on Wednesday.
The affected areas include Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Jashore, Kushtia, Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet.
The weather office said winds from the south or southeast could reach 45-60 kilometres per hour in these areas, accompanied by rain or thunderstorms.
Authorities asked river ports in the affected areas to display local cautionary signal No. 1.
