President of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly Khalilur Rahman on Thursday paid tribute to Qatar’s late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, describing him as one of the most consequential leaders in the country’s modern history, reports Gulf Times.
Speaking at the opening of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Khalilur Rahman praised Sheikh Hamad’s legacy of transformation, development and commitment to human dignity.
He highlighted the late leader’s emphasis on mediation over confrontation, dialogue over division and development rooted in human dignity.
The president said Sheikh Hamad’s legacy of transformation at home and dialogue and diplomacy abroad would continue to shape Qatar for generations to come.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani also attended the special session.
