Teen killed, 15 injured in Brahmanbaria over drug related dispute

A 15-year-old boy was killed and at least 15 others injured in a clash between two groups in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria over a dispute related to drug trading, police and local sources said.

The incident occurred late Friday night in Syedtula Uttarpara village. The deceased, Raihan Mia, was the son of Chutun Mia of the area.

According to local sources, the dispute began around 10:00pm when Sajib Mia allegedly gave Tk300 to a local youth to buy yaba. However, the youth reportedly spent the money on biscuits instead. An argument between the two soon escalated into a physical altercation.

Several local youths, including Kamal, Jasim and Dewan Uddin, who are known for their anti-drug activities, intervened to inquire about the matter. At that point, two other youths, Shahin and Ratan Mia, reportedly sided with Sajib, further intensifying tensions between the groups.

As the dispute grew, both sides allegedly armed themselves with locally made weapons and became involved in a violent clash around 12:30 am.

Residents said the confrontation continued for nearly an hour under torchlight, creating panic throughout the area. During the clash, Raihan sustained critical injuries from a sharp weapon. He was rushed to Sarail Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

At least 15 other people from both groups were also injured in the incident.

Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monjur Kader Bhuiyan said the clash stemmed from a drug-related dispute. Police conducted an operation and brought the situation under control.

“One person named Raihan was killed in the clash. The body remains at the hospital, and necessary legal procedures are underway,” he said.
