Four remanded over creating disorder on Dhaka court premises

A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed four people on a three-day remand in a case filed for allegedly creating disorder on the court premises.

They are Mostakim Hossain, Md Nur Alam, Md Ruhul Amin and Md Anwar Hossain.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana passed the order after a hearing, said defence lawyer Farzana Yasmin Rakhi.

On 27 July, Kotwali police station Sub-Inspector Ibn Khalid Hossain, also the investigating officer of the case, sought a seven-day remand for the accused. However, the court fixed Tuesday for the hearing.

According to the case statement, on 26 July, the accused allegedly attempted to create disorder on the Dhaka court premises after former ICT state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak was produced before the court for a hearing on the framing of charges in a case linked to the July Uprising.

The accused also allegedly chanted anti-government slogans after gathering in front of the Metropolitan Sessions Court premises.

Police apprehended the four at the scene, while others fled.

A case was later filed with the police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The remand petition said the custodial interrogation was necessary to uncover the main motive behind the incident and identify the absconding accused as well as those who financed the alleged activities.
