Ex-lawmaker Tanveer Imam shown arrested in attempted murder case

A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered that former Member of Parliament Tanveer Imam be shown arrested in an attempted murder case filed with Gulshan Police Station in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order after police produced the accused before the court and sought to show him arrested in the case.

The investigating officer, Gulshan Police Station Sub-Inspector Abdus Salam, said in the remand plea that evidence had been found linking the accused to the case. He sought to show the accused arrested to ensure a fair investigation.

According to the case documents, van-puller Jabbar Ali was shot and injured in Gulshan’s Shahjadpur area on 19 July 2024, during the anti-quota movement. He filed the case on 11 December 2024, accusing 109 people, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier, on 18 September 2024, Tanveer Imam was arrested from the capital’s Gulshan.
