Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad returned to Dhaka from Tehran on Sunday night after attending the state funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
He arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11pm after representing Bangladesh at the funeral ceremonies, said a parliament secretariat press release.
The Speaker left Dhaka for Tehran on Thursday (2 July) to attend the state funeral. On behalf of Bangladesh, he paid tribute to the late Iranian leader at the ceremony held at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla.
During the solemn event, the Speaker offered prayers for the departed soul of Ayatollah Khamenei and met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other senior leaders. He conveyed the condolences and sympathy of the government and people of Bangladesh to the people of Iran.
The Speaker also praised Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf for his constructive role in implementing the recently signed peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States.
He formally invited Ghalibaf to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time, according to the press release.
