Salman F Rahman shown arrested in fresh case

A Dhaka court on Monday ordered Salman F Rahman, former adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, to be shown arrested in a case filed over allegedly assaulting, threatening and forcing a Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited (BIFFL) official.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam passed the order after Investigation Officer Md Masud Rana filed a petition, said complainant’s lawyer Abbas Uddin.

He said PBI submitted the investigation report to the court on 6 December 2025, accusing six people. Salman F Rahman was the first accused to be shown arrested in the case.

Earlier, on 15 September 2024, SM Farmanul Islam, former chief executive officer of BIFFL, filed the case before a metropolitan magistrate’s court, naming 12 accused, including former finance secretary and Bangladesh Bank governor Abdur Rouf Talukder and former National Board of Revenue chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem.

According to the case documents, Salman allegedly pressured Farmanul to approve loans of around USD$185 million for his Teesta Solar project and Tk200 crore investment in zero-coupon bonds.

The complaint also alleges that pressure was exerted to provide hundreds of crores of taka in unsecured loans to various Beximco Group companies, which Farmanul refused due to irregularities.

The accused later allegedly assaulted Farmanul and threatened to kill him before forcing him to sign a resignation letter in July 2019. He was also allegedly threatened with being implicated in a graft case.

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted a charge sheet against six accused in December 2025.
