Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Monday that the government cannot rely on speculation made by a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) report regarding the activities of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) in Bangladesh.
Asked about the government’s stance on the issue, the home minister said, “I have heard that AQIS might be using Bangladehi territory to create terrorist cells. I have not read the report yet. There might be some reflections in that report, which I cannot talk about without seeing it first.”
Replying to another question regarding if the government is considering the report, Salahuddin added, “We are not considering the report yet. We are yet to read it. We have heard from the media that the UNSC report is based on speculations, which the government cannot rely on.”
