Bangladesh doesn’t know Sheikh Hasina’s status in India: Chief Prosecutor

International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam said on Monday that Bangladesh has no specific information about the exact status of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently staying in India.

The Chief Prosecutor made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists in the morning.

Aminul Islam said the Bangladesh government had already requested India to extradite Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh and that necessary steps had been taken through the legal process to bring her back.

Asked about a report in an Indian media outlet suggesting that court approval might be required to facilitate Sheikh Hasina’s return to Bangladesh, the Chief Prosecutor said the report did not clarify whether she was in India under political asylum or what her exact legal status was.

“Therefore, it would not be appropriate to comment based on that report,” Aminul Islam said.
