A Dhaka court on Monday allowed a police plea to show former Awami League lawmaker Amirul Alam Milon arrested in a murder case linked to the July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order to show him arrested following a police petition, said State prosecutor Harun-or-Rashid.
Earlier, on 15 August, Sub-Inspector Md Mainul Islam Khan Pulok of Shahbagh Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case, filed the petition seeking to show Milon arrested in the case.
According to the case documents, Monir, a small-scale jute trader, joined the student-people’s uprising in the Chankharpul area on 5 August 2024.
Monir was shot dead at the scene, allegedly by bullets fired by the accused. His wife, Rujina Akter, filed the murder case with Shahbagh Police Station on 14 March 2025.
The police petition stated that investigators had found evidence linking Milon to the incident and that his arrest in the case was necessary for further investigation.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) arrest Milon from the capital’s Indira Road area on 6 May 2025.
