A Dhaka court on Wednesday fixed 21 September for recording the witnesses testimony in a case filed against former lawmaker Abdus Salam Murshedy and 12 others over the alleged misappropriation of 27 kathas of government land in the Gulshan-2 area of the capital.
Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 Judge Md Abdus Salam set the new date as no witness appeared before the court on the day, said defence lawyer Khademul Islam.
According to court sources, on 6 July, the court framed the charges and ordered the trial to begin, fixing Wednesday for recording witness testimony. However, as the witnesses did not appear, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) sought time, which the court granted.
According to the charge sheet, the accused, in collusion with one another, abused their authority and created forged records to facilitate the transfer of a 27-katha abandoned property listed in the government gazette in the Gulshan Residential Area without obtaining the required release order.
The charge sheet further claimed that the accused created an opportunity to misappropriate the government property by approving the transfer permission and mutation. The case was filed under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 109 of the Penal Code, along with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
