Attempts being made to destroy bonds of brotherhood: Rizvi

BNP Acting Secretary General and Prime Minister’s Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has accused conspirators of attempting to destroy the bonds of brotherhood and communal harmony in Bangladesh.

“Our unbreakable bond will endure for generations. We take part in each other’s religious festivals and celebrations,” he said while talking to reporters on Tuesday morning after paying tribute by placing floral wreaths at the graves of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

At the event, Rizvi, accompanied by leaders of the Hindu, Buddhist and Christian Religious Welfare Trusts, said separate trusts had been formed for the welfare of the three religious communities.

He said the governing committees of the trusts would work to ensure that places of worship belonging to the respective communities were developed and managed more effectively, allowing worshippers and devotees to pray and perform religious rituals without hindrance.

Rizvi said those appointed to lead the trusts were highly qualified and capable individuals from their respective communities. They would sincerely oversee the overall management of places of worship, he added

He said every religious community and ethnic group have an equal place under the philosophy of Bangladeshi nationalism introduced by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

“Everyone here can proudly identify themselves as Bangladeshi,” he said.

Rizvi further said that although various groups opposed to the country were trying to break this unbreakable bond, the people of Bangladesh have always remained united.

“We share in each other’s joy during religious festivals, whether it is Puja, other celebrations or Eid,” he said.
