Probe report in graft case against Shakib, 14 others deferred to 17 November

A Dhaka court on Wednesday set 17 November for the submission of the probe report in a graft case against former lawmaker and cricketer Shakib Al Hasan and 14 others over the alleged manipulation of the stock market, illegal transactions and money laundering.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Shajahan Kabir set the new date as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) failed to submit the report on the scheduled date.

The other accused in the case are– Department of Cooperatives Deputy Registrar Abul Khair Hiru; his wife Kazi Sadia Hasan; Abul Kalam Madbar; Kanika Afroz; Mohammad Bashar; Sazed Madbar; Aleya Begum; Kazi Fuad Hasan; Kazi Farid Hasan; Javed A Matin; Zahed Kamal; Shirin Akhter; Humayun Kabir; and Tanvir Nizam.

On 17 May this year, ACC Assistant Director Sajjad Hossain filed the case on charges of manipulating the stock market through illegal serial transactions, fraudulent active trading, gambling and speculation using BO accounts linked to their own interests.

They allegedly artificially inflated the prices of certain shares, thereby manipulating the market and deceiving general investors. The FIR states that general investors incurred losses amounting to Tk256 crore.
