MEP Group to invest in Special EZ

MEP Group, one of Bangladesh’s longstanding manufacturers of electrical and electronic products, has announced plans to establish a modern manufacturing plant in the National Special Economic Zone in Chattogram.

The company plans to invest approximately Tk200 crore to expand its production capacity and broaden its range of switch-sockets, circuit breakers, cables, LED lights and fans, said a press release.

The proposed plant will be developed on 10 acres of land in the National Special Economic Zone at Mirsarai, Chattogram. MEP Group expects the technology-based facility to support product development, create employment and strengthen the competitiveness of Bangladesh’s electrical products industry.

As part of its market expansion programme, MEP Group organised the “MEP Accessories Super Offer 2026 Grand Achiever Celebration” at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden. At the event, the company presented the keys to 78 motorcycles and awarded two refrigerators to a total of 80 winners.

The programme also included a display of MEP products and discussions with retailers, distributors and other business partners.

Md Fazlul Hoque, administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), attended the event as chief guest.

He said, “MEP is one of Bangladesh’s longstanding manufacturers of electrical products. Its proposed investment and modern factory in the National Special Economic Zone will support the production of high-quality and diversified products. The initiative is also expected to contribute to industrialisation, employment and domestic manufacturing capacity.”

Jahangir Alam Chaklader, managing director of MEP Group, said, “The new factory is central to our long-term plans for higher production capacity, improved product quality, modern technology, product development and market expansion. We want to work closely with retailers, distributors and customers to strengthen MEP’s contribution to Bangladesh’s electrical products market.’

MEP Group said the prize-giving programme formed part of a wider effort to engage its business partners and customers as the company prepares for further growth. The company expects its relationships with the market, established product portfolio and planned manufacturing capacity to support the next stage of expansion. The next phase of the MEP special offer will run from October to December 2026.

Shakil Alam Chaklader, director of MEP Group, said, “By presenting 78 motorcycles and two refrigerators to 80 winners, we have recognised the contribution of our retailers, distributors and business partners. As products from the new factory enter the market, our priority will be to expand the market with our partners and build a strong distribution and marketing network.”

Senior officials of MEP Group, business leaders, distributors, retailers and representatives of print, television and online media attended the programme. In addition to the prize presentation, participants exchanged views on market development and reviewed MEP’s product range.
