Bangladesh’s Asian Games campaign in Nagoya has started embarrassingly, with the badminton team facing a kit crisis ahead of their scheduled matches on Monday.

Tournament organisers have objected to the team’s jerseys due to glaring errors, including spelling mistakes, incorrect fonts, flawed designs, and the wrong national flag size.

Players warned badminton federation officials about these mistakes before leaving Bangladesh but were ignored. They were told the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) had already approved the designs, and the team was sent to Japan anyway.

Speaking anonymously, one shuttler explained the mess. “In international events, a player’s name is written as it appears on their passport. But they used common nicknames. Even if organisers approved that, misspelling names is unacceptable,” the player said.

The shuttler cited teammate Ayman Ibne Zaman, whose name was printed as ‘Juman’. They also pointed out incorrect font sizes, wrong flag dimensions, unusual text borders, and the missing country name below the players’ names.

“We informed the federation’s general secretary about these mistakes at home, but were told the BOA approved the design,” the player added.

It remains unclear how uncorrected gear passed official approval. If the dispute is not solved quickly, the shuttlers could be barred from playing on Monday, putting their Asian Games hopes in doubt before they even hit a shuttlecock.
