Khulna Press Club (KPC) has honoured 10 veteran journalists for completing 40 years in the profession, recognising their contributions to journalism and society.
The felicitation programme was held at the club’s banquet hall on Saturday night, organised by KPC with support from North Western University.
The honourees received crests and traditional scarves in recognition of their long-standing service.
The recipients were Ashraf-ul-Haq, editor and publisher of the daily Prabaha, Munir Uddin Ahmed, Khulna bureau chief of The New Nation, Kazi Motahar Rahman, executive editor of Khulna Gazette, Sheikh Abu Hasan, special correspondent of the online news portal Charcha, Muhammad Abu Tayeb, Khulna bureau chief of NTV, Sheikh Didarul Alam of UNB, Masudur Rahman Rana, news editor of the daily Somoyer Khobor, Md Anisuzzaman, Khulna bureau chief of Natun Diganta, Md Ershad Ali, Khulna bureau chief of Naya Diganta and Md Zakir Hossain, editor of the weekly Kolahal.
Khulna City Corporation Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju attended the programme as chief guest. Noted educationist Professor Anwarul Kadir, North Western University Chairman Mizanur Rahman, Greater Khulna Development Action Coordination Committee President Ashrafuzzaman, civic leader Sardar Abu Taher and women entrepreneur Shamim Sultana Shilu attended as special guests.
KPC President Mostafa Sarwar presided over the programme, moderated by its General Secretary Md Tarikul Islam.
Addressing the event, speakers said journalism was not merely a profession but also a powerful instrument for social change.
They praised the journalists for demonstrating integrity, courage and objectivity throughout their four-decade careers, inspiring younger generations despite challenging circumstances.
The speakers also stressed the importance of drawing on senior journalists’ experience and wisdom to strengthen journalism in the country.
