‘Martyey Elen Durga Maa’: Lyricist ATM Rakibul Bassar Dedicates Durga Puja Song to School Friend

A song celebrating Goddess Durga, autumn festivities and the enduring bonds of friendship has been released ahead of Durga Puja 2026.

As autumn paints Bengal’s skies blue, white kash flowers sway in the breeze and the fragrance of shiuli blossoms fills the air, a new song is adding a musical touch to the festive spirit of Durga Puja 2026.

Titled “Martyey Elen Durga Maa” (Goddess Durga Has Arrived on Earth), the song is written by expatriate journalist, writer and lyricist ATM Rakibul Bassar. Blending the joy of the goddess’s arrival with the emotions of friendship and the sadness of farewell, the song seeks to capture the many feelings associated with the annual Hindu festival.

But behind the festive lyrics lies a personal story of friendship and cherished school-day memories.

A Musical Tribute to School Friendship

Bassar has dedicated the song to his school friend, Sourav Das, as a heartfelt gesture of affection and remembrance. The dedication also extends to his other Hindu friends from school, including Amit Haldar, Amit Nath, Himadri, Antara, Aditi, Urmi and Shawon, along with other well-wishers.

Through the song, Bassar seeks to express his affection for the friends with whom he shared his formative years. The dedication reflects how friendships formed during childhood can remain meaningful despite the passage of time, geographical distance and the changing circumstances of life.

The song also carries a message of communal harmony and mutual respect, using a major religious celebration as an occasion to express personal bonds that transcend differences.

Capturing the Spirit of Durga Puja

The lyrics trace the festive journey of Durga Puja, from the anticipation of the goddess’s arrival to the celebrations surrounding the different days of worship and the emotional farewell on Dashami.

Images of autumn skies, shiuli flowers, dhak drums, festive lights and the rituals of worship evoke the traditional atmosphere of the festival. The lyrics also reflect on the symbolic significance of Goddess Durga as a source of strength, light and courage in the struggle against evil.

The emotional tone deepens as the song approaches the farewell, expressing the sadness of bidding farewell to the goddess while looking forward to her return the following year.

This combination of celebration, devotion, nostalgia and hope forms the emotional core of the song.

Released on Online Platforms

“Martyey Elen Durga Maa” has been released on various online platforms ahead of Durga Puja 2026. The song’s lyrics have been drawing interest among listeners, according to those associated with the release.

For Bassar, the project is also an opportunity to remain connected with Bengali culture and traditions while living abroad. By combining the spirit of Durga Puja with a tribute to his school friends, he has given the song a personal dimension beyond its festive theme.

Whether heard as a devotional festive song or as a musical letter to old friends, “Martyey Elen Durga Maa” brings together two enduring emotions: the joy of celebration and the warmth of friendship.

As Durga Puja approaches, the song offers listeners a reminder that while festivals return every year, the memories and relationships associated with them can last a lifetime.
