A Dhaka court on Tuesday deferred the hearing on charge framing against actress Pori Moni and two others in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act with Banani Police Station in the capital in 2021.

Judge Md Rabiul Alam of the Dhaka Special Judge Court-10 fixed 17 November as the new date following a petition by the defence, said State Prosecutor Md Moazzem Hossain.

Earlier in the day, Pori Moni’s lawyer Nilanjona Rifat appeared before the court on her behalf and sought an adjournment.

She said Pori Moni had suffered a leg injury a few days ago and had been experiencing pain. She sought time, arguing that it was difficult for her to move and that she could not appear before the court.

Opposing the petition, the state prosecutor sought cancellation of Pori Moni’s bail and an order framing charges. He also sought cancellation of her appearance through her lawyer.

The court, however, allowed the time petition and fixed 17 November for the next hearing.

According to the case documents, on 4 August 2021, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a raid at Pori Moni’s residence and recovered alcohol and drugs.

She was later arrested, and the battalion filed a narcotics case against her.

She was released after spending a month in jail.

On 4 October 2021, CID Inspector Kazi Golam Mostafa, the investigating officer in the case, submitted a charge sheet against Pori Moni and two others, and the court framed charges on 5 January 2022.

The other two accused are Pori Moni’s manager Ashraful Islam Dipu and her maternal uncle Kabir Hossain Hawladar.

Later, Pori Moni filed a petition with the High Court seeking quashing of the case.

On 1 March 2022, the High Court issued a rule and stayed the proceedings of the case against her for three months. Later, the apex court ordered the framing of charges afresh in the case.
