At least 30 crude bombs cached underground went off simultaneously at a homestead in Narshia village under Narayanpur union of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on Monday night.

The blasts blew off the tin roof and severely damaged the house of Mohammad Yeahia, 47, nephew of local Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mawlana Musa and an active party supporter. No casualties were reported.

The occupants went into hiding immediately after the incident, which triggered panic in the border area.

Locals and Narayanpur Union Parishad Chairman Nazir Hossain linked the explosives to a festering turf war over controlling an enclosure fishery (gher) near the border.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion 53 Commanding Officer Lt Col Mustafizur Rahman said troops inspected the scene, some three kilometres from the Jahurpur outpost, adding that the border area is calm.Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ekramul Hossain said drives and investigations are underway to trace how the bombs were stockpiled and nab those responsible.
